Description

Despite wide-spread media attention and numerous high-profile lawsuits, sex discrimination and harassment continues to compromise the workplace. Contributing factors include a lack of clear understanding by employers, supervisors and employees alike as to what constitutes unlawful sex discrimination and harassment. Additionally, an increase in the complaints of workplace “Abusive Conduct” or “bullying” have led to new legal requirements for educating California’s employers and supervisors. Finally, newly published, legal definitions of terms related to gender identity and expression have dramatically expanded the list of protected characteristics in terms of housing, employment, and education. Understanding of these sex and gender related terms and concepts is vital toward assuring a respectful and civil workplace and living environment in the community care setting. This class is designed to meet the Core of Knowledge section on Management/Supervision of Staff. The information provided in this 2-hour class is required for supervisors of California employers with 5 or more employees (California Government Code § 12950.1)
