Description

This is the California State approved 35 hour course of instruction preparing participants to (a) enter the profession of providing residential care to dependent adults, and (b) successfully complete the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division Adult Residential Facility (ARF) Administrator Certification Examination. This program includes all eight areas of the ARF 35-Hour Initial Certification Core of Knowledge including:

  • Law and Regulation
  • Business Operations
  • Psycho-Social Needs of the Elderly
  • Management and Supervision of Staff
  • Physical Needs of the Elderly
  • Community and Support Services
  • Medication Management
  • Resident Admission, Assessment, and Retention procedures.
  • Emergency Intervention/Non-Violent
  • LGBT Community Awareness and Sensitivity.

 

Course Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this seminar, you will be able to:

(a) Describe the purpose of the California Community Care Facility Act.

(b) Locate information in the California Code of Regulations, Title 22, Division 6, Chapters 1 and 6 that is essential to successfully practice residential care of the dependent adult.

(c) Prepare a basic business plan of operation for an Adult Residential care Facility.

(d) Identify elements that are essential to successfully hiring, supervising, and managing ARF staff.

(e) Discuss the process of mental disorders and developmental disabilities in terms of how they impact upon the physical needs of the dependent adult.

(f) Discuss how the psycho-social needs of the dependent adult differ from those of the general adult population.

(g) Describe the requirements for the admission and retention of clients into an ARF.

(h) Describe the process of assisting clients with medication administration in an ARF.

(i) Identify community resource services that are available to ARF clients and their care providers.

(j) Describe elements essential to providing successful care and supervision of residents who may require Non-Violent Emergency Intervention and Crisis Prevention.

(k) Discuss the concept of cultural competency and sensitivity in regards to issues relating to the underserved aging lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.
