Description
Over the last few decades, the residential and community care profession has seen a continuing trend of a greying of the boundaries between what has traditionally been a hospitality profession to increasing levels of healthcare programs and procedures becoming an expectation. While housekeeping, sanitation, and standard precautions have long been at the foundation of hospitality practice, infection control and prevention has been traditionally and professionally a healthcare practice. Highly contagious and lethal direct contact infections, such as the ebola virus in 2014, to ongoing outbreaks of airborne infectious diseases including tuberculosis, usual childhood illnesses, and COVID-19, have necessitated adopting infection control practices across the continuum of care. This is for the well-being of our residents, staff, and visitors. It is essential that residential and community care professionals clearly understand the regulatory infection control requirements as they apply to the their role in the continuum of care. It is also essential that they develop appropriate policies and procedures within their scope of practice. This program is specifically designed to meet the requirements indicated in the core of knowledge section on Law and Regulations.
