Description
In 2017, sections of California’s Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE) Act, and Probate Code were amended to replace the term “dementia” with major neurocognitive disorder (NCD). This program will provide Administrators with current information about categories of NCD, diagnostic features and the functional consequence of each category of NCD in accordance with DSM-V. Regulation updates are currently in progress to introduce the term NCD and update definitions of dementia as being a general term that refers to NCD. Also, the General Regulations provide guidance on delayed egress devices, an outdated definition of dementia, and minimal guidance on care and supervision of persons with NCD. This course will be presenting RCFE regulations as guidance on the standard of care for clients with NCD. Finally, this course will provide Administrators with an overview, and the information and skills necessary to provide individualized care and supervision to clients with NCD. This course is specifically designed to address the Core of Knowledge Section on Psycho-Social Needs: Dementia (ARF), Managing Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (RCFE).
