This is a Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division approved 80 hour course of instruction preparing participants to

(a) enter the profession of providing residential care to the elderly, and

(b) successfully complete the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division Residential Care Facility for the Elderly Administrator Certification Examination.

This program includes all thirteen areas of the RCFE 80-Hour Initial Certification Core of Knowledge including

(1) Law and Regulation,

(2) Business Operations,

(3) Management and Supervision of Staff,

(4) Psycho-social Needs of the Elderly,

(5) Physical Needs of the Elderly,

(6) Community and Support Services,

(7) Medication Management,

(8) Admission, Assessment and Retention,

(9) Managing Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementia syndrome care,

(10) Serving the Needs of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Seniors,

(11) Managing the Physical Environment,

(12) Supporting Resident Rights, and

(13) Caring for residents who require Postural Supports, care of Restricted Health Conditions, and Hospice Care.

The program includes 60 hours of classroom or live online streaming videoconference instruction which shall be attended in person, and 20 hours of Guided Individual Research and Live Streaming videoconference and/or Conference Call instruction designed to address the 20 hours of additional education and training requirements of California Health and Safety Code (HSC) § 1569.23(b)(1) and the California Code of Regulations, Title 22, Division 6, Chapter 8 (22 CCR) § 87785(h)(1).

Also included with our program is an award-winning tome, and comprehensive study-guide materials to help prepare for the California RCFE/Assisted Living Administrator Certification Examination.

Course Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this seminar, you will be able to:

  • Describe the purpose of the California Residential Care Facility for the Elderly Act.
  • Locate information in the California Code of Regulations, Title 22, Division 6, Chapter 8 that is essential to successfully practice residential care of the elderly.
  • Prepare a basic business plan of operation for a residential care facility for the elderly (RCFE).
  • Identify elements that are essential to successfully hiring, supervising, and managing RCFE staff.
  • Discuss how the psycho-social needs of the elderly differ from those of the general adult population.
  • Discuss the process of aging and how it impacts upon the physical needs of the elderly.
  • Describe how to access community and support services available to elderly persons in the RCFE.
  • Describe the process of assisting clients with medication administration in an RCFE.
  • Describe the requirements for the admission and retention of clients into an RCFE.
  • Describe elements essential to providing successful care and supervision of residents with dementia-causing diseases.
  • Identify issues related to providing care and supervision to under-served elderly Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) persons in the RCFE.
  • Identify regulatory requirements for managing the physical environment of the RCFE.
  • Discuss methods to ensure regulatory and statutory compliance with the rights of residents living in the RCFE.
  • Describe methods to support the needs of residents who require postural supports, care for restricted health conditions, and hospice care.

Program Schedule:

  • Week 1, June 17 – 21: 9 AM – 7:30 PM, with Live Streaming Video-Conference each evening at 7 PM.
  • Weekend, June 22 & 23: Five hour assignment of guided research. Sunday, June 23: 7 – 8 PM Live Streaming Video-Conference
  • Week 2, June 24 & 25, 9 AM – 7:30 PM, with Live Streaming Video-Conference each evening at 7 PM.
  • Wednesday, June 26, 9AM – 1:30 PM

Course Title: Residential Care Facility for the Elderly Initial Certification Training Program (RCFE-ICTP)

Course Dates: June 17 – 26, 2024, 9AM – 7:30PM

(Make up time must be scheduled by appointment only for June 27th and 28th, 2024 with payment of $25 per each hour of make-up time.)

For an additional discount, you may also mail the course registration form with a check or money order. In accordance with California Civil Code § 1748.1(a) we do not charge a credit card fee, nor any other form of additional credit card processing fee.

The course registration fee is nonrefundable. If you are unable to attend, we will apply the fee to our next RCFE Administrator Certification Program scheduled in the next six-month period upon written request. Course CE Approval: Portions of this program are approved for California BRN professional continuing education credit. These course portions are provider approved by Quest for Excellence™, an accredited provider of continuing education for Registered and Licensed Nurses, and Physical Therapists through the California BRN CEP11897, and PTBC.
