Description

With the ever-increasing acuity of residential care and community care residents, Administrators are providing medication management services that require a sophisticated level of knowledge and skills. Professional nursing care is not required to provide these services in California. However, many states have implemented public policy to formally certify medication aides and medication technicians as a means to address the increased acuity. This presentation will highlight California Statute and Regulation specific to medication management, and compare the Oregon assisted living model of care which utilizes Certified Medication Aides to the California Assisted Living (Residential Care) and Skilled Nursing Facility settings. This program is specifically designed to meet the Core of Knowledge section on Medication Management.

Course Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this seminar, you will be able to:

  • Compare Oregon’s medical model of medication administration services to California’s social model of medication assistance services in the long term care or residential care facility.
